Indonesia holds expo to promote sustainable forest management

JAKARTA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Thursday opened the 3rd Indogreen Forestry Expo 2011 that runs through April 17 in which Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan declared this year as the International Year of Forestry, a press statement said here.

The event themed 'Green Living Concepts for Better Future' is joined by ministries and related institutions, state owned companies and private ones, mining, oil-gas and forestry companies, local governments and non-governmental organizations.

The number of participants in this year's event increased by 30 percent compared to last year.

The minister said that the International Year of Forestry was declared as an effort to increase awareness and to fortify the sustainable forest management, conservation and sustainable development of all forests around the world for the current and the next generations.

The event was expected to be a socialization and promotion spot of various products, technologies, industries and services as well as development success in fields related to the forestry sector.

It would function also as a tool to attract investors to invest their capital in sectors of forestry, agriculture, plantation, mining, tourism and others.
