Cambodia's agricultural product exports up 136 pct last year: commerce report

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia had exported agricultural products in equivalent to 364 million U.S. dollars last year, a 136 percent rise from 154 million U.S. dollars in the previous year, showed the official report of the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.

The exports included rubber latex, rice, cassava, bean, corn, sesame, pepper, coffee, and cashew nut.

The main income makers are rubber, earning 201 million U.S. dollars last year, up 131 percent from a year earlier, following by rice of 104 million dollars, up 197 percent, and cassava of 12. 5 million dollars, up 317 percent.

However, the exports of beans earned only 3.6 million dollars last year, down 67 percent from 11 million dollars in a year earlier, and corns earned 2.2 million dollars, down 49 percent from 4.3 million dollars.

Cambodia's main trade partners are Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, China and China's Taipei.

Agriculture is one of the four pillars supporting the country' s economic growth. The three others are garment and textile industry, tourism and real estate.
