Reception on A Celebration of ACC's Weibo Fans Reached 1 Million

On 8 August 2013, the Reception to celebrate the ASEAN-China Centre's Weibo Fans Reached 1 Million was held at the ACC ASEAN Hall. More than 100 guests, including ASEAN Ambassadors and/or their representatives, representatives from diplomatic corps and international organizations in Beijing which have weibo, selected Chinese fans of the ACC weibo, university students, representatives of Sina weibo as well as journalists and media from various agencies, attended the event.

Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang delivered welcoming remarks, which introduced how the ACC was established and what are the developments and current activities of the ACC. He emphasized on the ACC's PR activities in different forms, including ACC website and publications, invitations extended to ASEAN Ambassadors to chat with the ACC fans online, holding online ASEAN photo competitions, and active interaction with ACC fans via ACC weibo. Weibo has proved to be a useful tool to connect people and promote ASEAN-China relations. It has so far disseminated more than 4,000 pieces of information to the viewers. The 8th August is an auspicious day. It marks the ASEAN Day and the 2nd round of the ACC's 1st trial day of operation in 2011. The ACC will continue to use this channel to make new friends and enhance people-to-people connectivity among the 19 billion peoples between 10 ASEAN Member States and China.

During this memorable night, the ACC's weibo fans and all distinguished guests also enjoyed an exhibition on ACC activities and ASEAN-China relations, a performance on Chinese paper cutting by one of the ACC's volunteer weibo fans, actively participated in Q&A quiz session, which helped equip them with better knowledge and understanding about ASEAN Member States, ASEAN-China cooperation and the ACC.

The ACC set up its weibo in Sina.com on 17 October 2011 and its fans reached 1 million on 15 July 2013.
