A Group of Young Malaysian Diplomats Visited ACC

On 30 August 2013, a group of young Malaysian diplomats led by Ambassador Aminahtum Hj. A Karim, the Deputy Director General of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and Mr. Lim Juan Jin, the Director of Training, visited ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).

ACC Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang and his team warmly welcomed the delegation. He briefed on background and development of ACC as the only inter-governmental organization established by the Governments of 10 ASEAN Member States and China. He introduced roles and activities of ACC to enhance ASEAN-China relations, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, as well as to support ASEAN Community building process. He also highlighted the important role of ACC in promoting people-to-people connectivity through education, cultural and information exchanges, human resource development and capacity building, which could further create better understanding and mutual trust between ASEAN and China.

Ambassador Aminahtum Hj. A Karim provided relevant information about work and responsibility of the IDFR, as well as objectives in bringing the group to visit China and tour around Beijing. The group had a great opportunity to meet with officials in various agencies, organizations and institutions, including the ACC. The visit was fruitful. It was not only help enlighten the young Malaysian diplomats on knowledges about China and ASEAN-China relations, but also well prepare them for their future diplomatic tasks and assignments.
