SEAMEO-China Education Research Network Initiated

Under the co-sponsorship of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the National Institute of Education Sciences of China (NIES), the Coordination Meeting on the Establishment of the SEAMEO-China Education Research Network & the Development of the Guidebook to Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China was held at the Beijing Conference Center on 5 June 2014.

During the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Witaya Jeradechakul, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Mr. Tri Purnajaya, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, and Prof. Xu Changfa, Acting President of NIES, made remarks and expressed their best wishes for the Network and the Guidebook. Mr. Liu Jianfeng, Vice President of NIES, chaired the opening session. 

12 representatives from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand participated in the discussions about the rationale, vision, mission and mechanism for sustainabilities of the Network, as well as the contents and time line of the Guidebook. They reported no such mechanism of cooperation and exchange among national education research institutes in Southeast Asian countries and welcomed the establishment of SEAMEO-China Network. They also unanimously requested NIES to be the General Coordinator of the Guidebook Project. Dr. Witaya Jeradechakul, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Ms. Wang Yan, Director for International Exchanges of NIES, and Mr. Wang Daoyu, Deputy Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC moderated the discussions. Mr. Zhao Lei, Deputy Director for International Organizations, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of China, also attended the meeting.

The delegates visited the Primary School of China Renmin University and the Beijing Information Management School on 6 June 2014.
