HANOI, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Vietnam's capital Hanoi in September is likely to hike 0.51 percent against the previous month and 3.26 percent year-on-year, said Hanoi Statistics Office on Monday.

Hanoi's CPI is expected to increase by 2.05 percent over that of December 2013 while the nine-month CPI is to rise 5.64 percent year-on-year, said the office.

During the month, the capital city is forecast to witness a significant rise in price of education group with an increase of 8. 55 percent against the previous month. This is attributed to the increase in tuition fee of local universities and colleges following a Vietnamese government's decree.

Prices of catering and related services are expected to see the second largest increase in September with a hike of 0.31 percent against August.

Of the 11 items in the CPI basket, two groups are estimated to have their prices decline during the month include housing, construction materials (down 0.91 percent against the previous month) and transport (down 1.96 percent) due to the drop in prices of oil and gas.

Though not included in CPI calculation, in September, the prices of gold and U.S. dollar are projected to fall 1.65 percent and 0.09 percent over August, respectively, said the office.
