ACC Organized the ASEAN-China TVET Summit in Guiyang

On 2-3 September 2014, the ASEAN-China TVET Summit was held in Guiyang. As one of the activities of the 7th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, the Summit was co-organized by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO VOCTECH), Central Institute of Vocational and Technical Education (CIVTE) of Chinese MOE, hosted by Guiyang Vocational and Technical College, and sponsored by Zhejiang Yalong Education Equipment Company and Sanlian Diary Company. Mr. Wang Jiping, Councilor of Department of TVET of Chinese MOE, Mr. Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-General of ACC, Mr. Hj Md Sharifuddin Hj Md Salleh, Director of SEAMEO VOCTECH, Mr. Yang Jin, Director-General of CIVTE, other governing board members of SEAMEO VOCTECH, and representatives from vocational colleges from ASEAN and China, participated in the Summit. 

The Summit was divided into three sessions. On the opening ceremony, Mr. Wang Jiping, Mr. Ma Mingqiang and Mr. Hj Md Sharifuddin Hj Md Salleh delivered their remarks respectively. In the first session, Mr Yang Jin gave a lecture on “Nature of Learning and key conceptual issues in TVET”, while Mr Liu Hongjie, Director of Department of TVET of Chinese MOE, introduced the latest development of modern TVET in China.

In the second session, themed “TVET Response to ASEAN Economic Integration and Challenge of ACTFA”, Mr. Hj Ahmad Tajudin Jab, Director-General of Department of Technical and Vocational Education of MOE of Malaysia, Mr. Phouvieng Phoumilay, Deputy Director-General of Department of Technical and Vocational Education of Laos MOE, Mr Aw York Bin, Deputy CEO of Institute of Techinological Education of Singapore, and Mr. Win Maw Tun, Deputy Director-General of Department of Technical and Vocational Education of Myanmar Ministry of Science and Technology, gave their remarks and insights on the theme. The session was chaired by Mr. Hj Md Sharifuddin Hj Md Salleh, Director of SEAMEO VOCTECH.

In the third session, Mr. Yang Yanfeng, President of Guiyang Vocational and Technical College, Mr. Joachim Wagner, Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos, and Mr. Meng Qingguo, President of Union of China Applied Technology Colleges, shared their knowledge and experiences on ASEAN-China cooperation and exchanges in TVET. Dr. Liu Yufeng, Director of Research Office of International Cooperation and Comparative Education of CITVE, provided a lecture on "International Cooperation on Vocational Education at Home and Abroad & Potential Cooperation Between ASEAN and China in TVET". Mr. Wang Daoyu, Deputy Director, Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, introduced the TVET activities of the ASEAN-China Center, which was commended by all the participants.

At the closing, Mr. Wang Daoyu read out of the“Proposal for the Establishment of the ASEAN-China Mechanism for Cooperation and Exchanges in TVET” on behalf of ACC, as the initiator of the proposal, which was unanimously agreed by all the participants. The proposal was co-signed by representatives of the four proposing institutions, namely, ACC, SEAMEO VOCTECH, CITVE and Guiyang Vocational and Technical College, and also by representatives from the Observing Institutions.
