HANOI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's top legislator Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the Vietnamese parliament is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China's National People's Congress (NPC), and promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

The chairwoman of Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) made the remark while receiving Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Tuesday, the Chinese Embassy told Xinhua on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Ngan spoke highly of the development in bilateral relations between the two parties and states, saying Vietnam is willing to be China's close neighbor and partner, and agreed to maintain frequent visits by high-ranking leaders, as well as expand people-to-people exchanges.

The Chinese ambassador, for his part, said maintaining and developing the traditional friendship conform to the fundamental interests of the two peoples.

China is ready to join hands with Vietnam in implementing consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, maintaining frequent high-level visits, especially strengthening exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies of the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to enhance mutual political trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation, properly manage and control differences, so as to bring China-Vietnam relations to a new height, Hong said.

During the meeting, Hong conveyed the greetings of Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's NPC Zhang Dejiang to Ngan, who has just been elected chairwoman of Vietnam's NA in late March.

In return, Ngan also conveyed her greetings to Zhang.
