KUNMING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Companies and organizations from six countries along the Mekong River have established a business alliance, with a view to build a platform for cross-border e-commerce.

The alliance, established Saturday, will boost cross-border trade through e-commerce across the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), Yi Hong, chairman of the alliance, said at a forum on GMS economic cooperation held in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.

The GMS Economic Cooperation Program, launched in 1992 by six countries along the Mekong River -- Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, is designed to support regional infrastructure, and to promote trade, investment and economic growth.

Members of the alliance include e-commerce institutions, trade promotion institutions and e-commerce companies.

The cross-border e-commerce platform will be available in six languages, of the GMS countries, plus English, together with a platform for business training and a virtual incubator to encourage new businesses focused on cross-border e-commerce.

More than 100,000 commodities will be available on the platform at the initial stage, according to Yi.
