On 8 August 2017, ASEAN Committee in Beijing held a flag raising ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. Ambassadors or representatives of ASEAN countries in China, Mr. Kong Xuanyou, Assistant Foreign Minister of China, and representatives of the Embassies of ASEAN’s dialogue partners in China and relevant Chinese ministries and agencies attended the ceremony. Officials of ASEAN-China Centre, upon invitation, attended the event.
H.E. Ambassador Soegeng Rahardjo of the Republic of Indonesia in China, Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Beijing delivered welcoming remarks. Mr. Jose Santiago Sta. Romana, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines in China read out the congratulatory message of Mr. Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines and Rotating Chair of ASEAN on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN. Mr. Kong Xuanyou, Assistant Foreign Minister of China read out the congratulatory message of Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, to President Duterte on the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.
