The 2nd Partnership Workshop on SEAMEO-China TVET Cultural Twinning Programme Held in Guiyang

From 28 to 29 July 2018, the 2nd Partnership Workshop on SEAMEO-China TVET Cultural Twinning Programme was successfully held in Guiyang. The workshop was hosted by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat. ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) was one of the co-organizers. More than 150 participants from over 40 Chinese institutions and 30 institutions of ASEAN countries attended the event. Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, H.E. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, Mr. Liu Baoli, Executive Secretary-General of the Secretariat of Organizing Committee for the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), and Ms. Wang Hui, Deputy Director-General of Guizhou Provincial Department of Education addressed the opening ceremony.

Dr. Gatot stated that promoting technical and vocational education and training approved by the 11 Ministers of Education in Southeast Asia is one of the priorities of SEAMEO, aiming to promote the collaboration of TVET institutions in Southeast Asian countries with other regions and countries including China. He encouraged participating institutions to optimize this chance to strengthen and deepen collaborations.

Secretary-General Chen Dehai mentioned that vocational education is an important component of national education system and human resources development. Strengthening ASEAN-China vocational education cooperation meets the needs of both sides. ACC attaches great importance to ASEAN-China vocational education cooperation and highly commends and supports the SEAMEO-China TVET Cultural Twinning Programme. He hoped all the participants seize the opportunity, share wisdom and experience, and learn from each other to produce more tangible outcomes.

Mr. Liu Baoli and Ms. Wang Hui spoke highly of the significance of the SEAMEO-China TVET Cultural Twinning Programme. They expected the workshop to further promote ASEAN-China practical cooperation in vocational education, and establish a long-term mechanism for education exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.

During the two-day workshop, ASEAN and Chinese vocational institutions have fully shared information through face-to-face communication, and 126 MoU were signed. All the parties committed to implement the MoUs to concrete action, and promote complementing each other's advantage and building a long-term cooperation between Chinese and ASEAN vocational education institutions, so as to realize common development.
