On 31 August 2018, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) hosted a lecture on Chinese sharing economy. Professor Li Yongjian, Director of Research Centre of Internet Economy, National Academy of Economic Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Mr. Shawn Qin, Director of Global Government Affairs of Mobike Policy Studies Institute made intriguing speeches respectively. Director Li gave a detailed introduction on the development of Chinese sharing economy and made suggestions on how ASEAN countries should develop their sharing economy in his lecture themed “Sharing Economy in China: Achievements, Experiences and Lessons for ASEAN Countries”. He said that China has made a lot of adaptation and transformation on sharing economy business model introduced from abroad to make it in line with China's national conditions, which is why China has been able to achieve rapid development. China's sharing economy, which focuses on service industry, such as transportation, medical care, and other services with close connections with people’s daily life, helps balance market demand and supply. In addition, technology innovation and regulatory policy of “Encouragement on Innovation and Balancing Flexibility and Prudence also contribute to the rapid development of China’s sharing economy. He suggests that ASEAN countries, while drawing on China's experiences and lessons, should formulate policies and choose areas for development according to their own national conditions in their efforts to develop sharing economy. ASEAN and China should maintain close communications, strengthen exchanges, share experiences and jointly promote innovation and cooperation on sharing economy so as to achieve common development.

Director Qin gave an overview on Mobike’s business philosophy on sharing economy, the changes it made on people's lifestyle and Mobike's future prospects for sustainable development in his lecture themed “Smart Bike Sharing Builds Smart City”.

The two speakers also interacted with the participants on such topics as the use of large database in sharing economy and how Chinese sharing economy develops its business and operates overseas. ASEAN officials and business representatives said that the lectures gave them great inspiration and hoped ACC would continue to organize such lectures in the future.
