Cambodia Night held at the 2018 ASEAN “the Belt and Road” Tourism Culture Exchange Week

On 26 September 2018, the tourism publicity activity "Cambodia Night" was held by the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia during the 2018 ASEAN "the Belt and Road" Tourism Culture Exchange Week in Guiyang, China. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, Mr. Wu Qiang, Vice Governor of Guizhou Province, Mr. Zainuddin Bin Yahya, Ambassador of Malaysia to China, Mr. Masataka Fujita, Secretary-General of ASEAN-Japan Centre, Mr. Chen Yan, Mayor of Guiyang City and more than 200 guests from ASEAN national tourism organizations, ASEAN embassies in Beijing, relevant officials and representatives from tourism sector and media were present. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) was invited to attend the event and exchanged views with the distinguished guests on deepening ASEAN-China tourism cooperation. 

Dr. Thong Khon mentioned in his remarks that 2018 is very important as it marks the 15th anniversary of ASEAN-China strategic partnership and the 60thanniversary of Cambodia-China diplomatic relations. The "Belt and Road Initiative" brings benefits to people in the region by facilitating the flow of knowledge, economic activities, and influx of Chinese tourists to Cambodia which contributes to the tourism development and investment. Cambodia has launched key strategies such as "strategic plan for attracting Chinese tourist 2016-2020", "China-ready policy" and introduced accreditation system aiming to upgrade service standard. Cambodia will be ready to receive more than 2 million Chinese tourists annually by 2020. The Cambodia Night event will not only promote diversified tourism resources, but also present key tourism policies and investment incentives, and display Cambodia's culture, art, costume, cuisines to broaden local people's understanding of Cambodia. It will help enhance people-to-people exchanges and two-way tourism cooperation for the prosperity of both countries.

Mr. Wu Qiang commented that the deep-rooted and long-lasting traditional friendship between China and Cambodia has stood the test of the changing international landscape. The deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields has brought opportunities for both countries. He stressed that Guizhou is willing to strengthen strategic communication with Cambodia, push forward industrial production capacity cooperation according to local conditions, promote practical cooperation in tourism, economy, trade and other fields, as well as enhancing mutual understanding and friendship for common prosperity and development. He hoped that Cambodia Night would help promote Cambodian tourism and culture to Guizhou and vice versa.

At the event, 13 performers from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia presented a wonderful show with Cambodian characteristics which was a showcase of Cambodia's long history, cultural traditions and rich tourist resources, and thus won great applause from the audience.
