Malaysian Minister of Finance Gave an Interview to Chinese Media Delegation

On 24 October 2018, Mr. Lim Guan Eng, Malaysian Minister of Finance, met with the Delegation of “Chinese Media Reporting Trip to ASEAN” organized by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and gave an interview on Malaysia-China economic and trade relations. Mr. Wang Zhiquan, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC was present at the meeting.

Mr. Lim said that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by China helps improve infrastructure and enhance connectivity among the countries along the Belt and Road, bringing benefits to the neighbouring countries. The Malaysian government sincerely hoped to see the BRI be successfully promoted, as neighbouring countries and China would share the benefits. Investors from all over the world, including China, are welcome to invest in Malaysia, and the country is looking forward to more Chinese tourists.

Mr. Lim said the China International Import Expo (CIIE) which is to be held in November in Shanghai is probably one of the most important international expos due to China’s stance as a manufacturing power in the world, thus it would provide important opportunity for not only Malaysia but all the participating countries.

Mr. Lim emphasized that China has become Malaysia’s largest trading partner and Malaysia is one of China’s major trading partners in ASEAN. At present, the bilateral relations maintain sound development momentum and see huge potentials for improvement. Malaysia hoped to join hands with China to deepen practical cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and continue to strive for a sustained development of the bilateral friendly relations of cooperation.
