Secretary-General Chen Dehai Met with Governor of Siem Reap of Cambodia Khum Bunsong

On 19 November 2018, ASEAN-China Centre Secretary-General Mr. Chen Dehai met with Governor of Siem Reap of Cambodia Khum Bunsong, and exchanged views on bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Mr. Liu Zhijie, Director of Siem Reap Consular Office of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Trade and Investment Director of ACC and officials of Siem Reap provincial government were present at the meeting.

Governor Khum Bunsong welcomed Secreral-General Chen Dehai visiting Siem Reap and briefed on the social and economic development of Siem Reap as well as its exchanges with the Chinese provinces and cities. He said that Cambodia and China share a long history of friendly exchanges, and bilateral friendship becomes even firmer as time goes by. The comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination continues to deepen steadily in the new era. Cambodia’s enthusiastic support of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China has deepened bilateral practical cooperation in various fields and achieved fruitful results. China is Cambodia’s largest source of tourists. In the first 10 months of this year, 830 thousand Chinese tourists visited Siem Reap. Siem Reap has already established sisiter-city relationship or signed MoU with 25 Chinese provinces and cities. Siem Reap would like to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to continue to deepen and broaden the overall friendly exchanges and cooperation.

Secretary-General Chen Dehai echoed the comment of Governor Khum Bunsong on Cambodia-China relationship by saying that the bilateral friendship was forged and cultivated by leaders of the two countries. Cambodia is a good friend, good neighbor, good partner and good brother of the Chinese people. It’s been 60 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties, and bilateral relations still keep moving forward at a high standard, which is conducive to the in-depth development of ASEAN-China relations. As a province with a long history, Siem Reap has rich natural and tourism resources. There is great potential and broad prospect for expanding exchanges and cooperation with China. ACC stands ready to continue to play the role as a bridge to provide support and assistance for Siem Reap to enhance the level of tourism industry and promote the all-round development of its economy and society and deepen cooperation with Chinese provinces and cities in various fields.
