On 21 September 2019, the opening ceremony of the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

This year, CAEXPO was themed “Building ‘the Belt & Road’, Realizing Our Vision for a Community of Shared Future”. Mr. Han Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council of China,delivered keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Heads of ASEAN Member States attended the opening ceremony, including Indonesian President’s Special Envoy and Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Myanmar's First Vice President U Myint Swe, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanavisit, Viet Nam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam. Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Secretariat Aladdin D. Rillo also attended the ceremony.

ACC Secretary-General Chen Dehai attended the opening the ceremony upon invitation and toured the pavilions of ASEAN countries and the ACC booth.
