2018 Tourism Facts & Figures in China and between ASEAN & China

In 2018, domestic visits in mainland China were 5.54 billion, increasing 10.8% year-on-year. Total inbound arrivals to mainland China were 141.2 million, increasing 1.2% year-on-year. International tourism receipts reached 127.1 billion US dollars, increasing 3.0% year-on-year; among which the foreign tourists contributed 73.1 billion US dollars, increasing 5.1% year-on-year. The total foreign arrivals to mainland China were 47.95 million (inclusive of border arrivals from the neighboring countries), among which the Asian countries accounted for 76.3%.

The top 17 countries of tourist source for mainland China were Myanmar, Viet Nam, Republic of Korea, Japan, USA, Russia, Mongolia, Malaysia, The Philippines,Singapore, India, Canada, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Germany and the UK.

Total outbound visits from mainland China were 149.72 million, increasing 14.7% year-on-year. In 2018, the arrivals from ASEAN countries to mainland China were about 25.4 million, increasing roughly 19.3% year-on-year.

The bilateral visits between ASEAN countries and China in 2018 reached more than 55 million, up by more than 10% year-on-year. China is ASEAN’s largest source of tourists whereas ASEAN remains one of the most popular destinations for Chinese outbound tourists.
