Honorary Professor Conferment Ceremony for Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun Successfully Held

On the afternoon of 17 January 2022, the Ceremony for awarding Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun, Ambassador of Indonesia to China, the title of “Honorary Professor of Dalian University of Foreign Languages” was successfully held by the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC). Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, Dr. Ma Jianfei, Director-General of the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Ministry of Education of China, and Dr. Liu Hong, President of Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL), attended and addressed the ceremony offline and online. Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun delivered a speech at the site. Mr. Chen Dehai presented an honorary professor certificate to Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun on behalf of DUFL.

Mr. Chen Dehai expressed his sincere congratulations to Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun on being conferred as Honorary Professor of DUFL. He pointed out that Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun has led the Indonesian delegation to attend various international and regional conferences and acts as an active promoter of RCEP, the world’s largest and most influential trade agreement. Under his leadership, the Embassy of Indonesia in China has played an important role in promoting collaboration in fields of politics, economy, culture and people-to-people exchanges between Indonesia and China. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun has spared no effort in leading vaccine diplomacy with China and made remarkable contributions to the pandemic prevention and economic recovery in Indonesia. It is believed that this event will further enhance the all-round collaboration of DUFL with Indonesian universities and forge closer people-to-people ties between Indonesia and China.

Dr. Ma Jianfei stated that as a good friend of CLEC, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun attaches great importance to the development of Chinese language education in Indonesia. CLEC is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy in China, ACC and relevant Chinese universities to carry out various programmes on a regular and systematic basis and make greater contributions to the exchanges and collaboration in all sectors between China and Indonesia.

Dr. Liu Hong indicated that Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun has been engaged in diplomatic work for nearly four decades, and has gained rich experience and made outstanding contributions in the field of foreign affairs. With Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun becoming Honorary Professor, teachers and students of DUFL will have more access to authoritative academic information, valuable practical experience and learning opportunities. The establishment and development of the new major of Bahasa Indonesia will be endowed with a higher starting point. In the future, DUFL will continue to give full play to the advantages of disciplines and majors and its social service functions and focus on the cultivation of high-level international talents, so as to provide intellectual support and talent guarantee for promoting China’s in-depth cooperation with Indonesia and other ASEAN Member States (AMS).

Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun gave a speech, expressing his sincere gratitude to ACC and DUFL. He noted that the future of mankind will be shaped by our present vision. China hopes to be engaged in the construction of a more just, secure and prosperous world, which also represents the common aspiration of all developing countries including Indonesia. During last week’s telephone conversation, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that Indonesia and China should strive to build a community with a shared future. The two countries have launched high-level dialogues and a new pattern of bilateral cooperation. Indonesia-China relations are at the highest peak and will continue to grow stronger. Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun stated that obtaining “Honorary Professor” is one of his proudest experiences in life, and he will strive to make more contributions to regional solidarity and economic recovery.

Kusnadi, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Indonesia in China and his wife Mrs. Nursari Apriani, heads of divisions of the Embassy of Indonesia in China, Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of the Trade and Investment Division of ACC, Mr. Arianto Surojo, Director of the Information and Public Relations Division of ACC, Ms. Li Yaying, Deputy Director of the Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, and Mr. Sun Xiaoyi, Deputy Director of the General Affairs and Coordination Division of ACC, attended the event.
