From 18 to 19 July 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Director General Thida Tin of Media Development Department of Ministry of Information of Myanmar, and Chairman U Kyaw Win of Shwe Than Lwin Media Group in Yangon.
Secretary General Shi Zhongjun said that media in Myanmar and China have been playing an important role in enhancing political mutual trust, promoting win-win cooperation and strengthening cultural exchanges and mutual learning between both countries. As an inter-governmental organization co-founded by 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China, the ACC has been committed to telling stories of each AMS as well as promoting ASEAN as a whole. The ACC wishes to work with the Information Ministry of Myanmar and media agencies such as Shwe Than Lwin Media Group, so as to promote cooperation through media exchanges in light of Myanmar’s actual conditions and cooperation needs, injecting new impetus into Myanmar-China people-to-people exchanges and post-pandemic recovery.
Thida Tin spoke highly of the unique status and constructive role of the ACC in promoting ASEAN-China media cooperation. The Myanmar side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the ACC in the training of press officials, capacity-building of government in public relations, and quality upgrading of news products.
U Kyaw Win appreciated the ACC’s important role in promoting people-to-people exchanges between Myanmar and China as well as ASEAN and China. The Media Group would like to work with the ACC to further promote mutual understanding between the people of Myanmar and China through television, internet and social media platforms and consolidate public support for the long-term growth of ASEAN-China relations.
