On 7 May 2014, Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with US Webster University delegation, comprising 2 tutors and 9 graduate students for Global MA in International Relations.
Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang met and extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He elaborated on ACC's efforts in promoting ASEAN-China functional cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism as well as enhancing mutual trust, understanding and friendship between ASEAN and China. Afterwards, Secretary-General Ma, ACC officials and the delegation had an interactive and intensive discussion covering a wide range of issues including ASEAN-China relations and cooperation, China's engagement in the region, ASEAN Community building by 2015, ACC's constructive contributions to ASEAN-China relations, challenges to the work of ACC, and cooperation among ACC, ASEAN-Japan Centre and ASEAN-Korea Centre, etc. The discussions were held in a lively and friendly atmosphere.
Mme. Qi Shuzhen, Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division, Mr. Tri Purnajaya, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division, Ms. Lada Phumas, Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC were present at the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, Ms. Lada Phumas accompanied the delegation to tour the photo exhibition on the development of ACC and ASEAN-China relations in the ACC ASEAN Hall, and made a briefing on the development, structure, roles and activities of ACC during the tour.
The meeting proved to be productive and once again helped raise ACC profile in networking with academic institutions which have been interest in ACC and ASEAN-China relations.
Webster University is located at St. Louis, Missouri of the United States. Its Global MA in International Relations provides full-time graduate students an opportunity to complete a master's degree in Europe and Asia in 11 months. The students spend an 8-week term in a number of cities in Europe and one 8-week term in Bangkok or Beijing.
