Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang Participated in the 8th Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation Forum and Delivered a Keynote Speech

On 15 May 2014, the 8th Pan-Beibu Gulf (PBG) Economic Cooperation Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi. Around 500 participants including politicians, experts as well as scholars from China and ASEAN countries attended the event, and exchanged views on “ joining hands to build the 21st century maritime silk road”. Mr. Peng Qinghua, Secretary of CPC Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Mr. Jiang Zhenghua, Vice Chairman of the 10th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) delivered the welcoming speeches. Mr. Chen Wu, Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ms. Gao Yan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce of China, Mr. Du Ying, Former Deputy Director of China National Development and Reform Commission,  and Mr. Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) delivered their remarks respectively at the opening ceremony.

Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang in his remarks said that to build the 21st century maritime silk road and China-ASEAN community of common destiny was an important undertaking to elevate the relationship between China and neighboring countries, which was proposed by the Chinese new leadership to cope with the present situation, the latter was an important connotation to build the 21st century maritime silk road. The proposal would benefit the ASEAN Community to be realized by the end of 2015, hence contribute to the development of ASEAN. Building the 21st century maritime silk road would provide a broader platform for PBG area of cooperation, and create more opportunities for PBG countries.

Secretary-General Ma also said that ACC would continue to serve as a facilitator of good neighborliness and mutual trust, an initiator of substantial cooperation and an advocator of friendship between ASEAN and China, and would spare no effort to support the PBG economic cooperation. Moreover, ACC would work closely with the relevant parties to promote PBG cooperation and build maritime silk road must be fully supported.

PBG economic cooperation is a sub-regional cooperation under the  overall framework between China and ASEAN. Since it was launched in 2006, the PBG Economic Cooperation Forum has been organized successfully in Nanning for 7 times, and become an important platform for promoting PBG economic cooperation. PBG cultural communication cooperation and creative seminar are also held in the event this year, aiming to further people-to-people connectivity and fully play a link role in establishment of PBG cooperation and maritime silk road.
