On 19 November 2014 Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) made an official visit to the China International Electronic Commerce Centre (CIECC) in Beijing and had a discussion with Mr. Zhu Xiaoliang, Director of CIECC, on future cooperation.

After his briefing on ACC’s duties, ongoing work and the development of ASEAN-China relations, Secretary-General Ma said that ASEAN and China were enjoying the best period of development of their relations and such relations were currently faced with good opportunities. The leaders of both sides had set up a series of targets for the future progress of their relations. The Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century and the upgraded version of CAFTA proposed by the Chinese leaders had drawn positive responses from ASEAN. Given the strong economic complementarity between both sides, China and ASEAN served as major markets for each other. ACC would direct its efforts to push forward the pragmatic cooperation between ASEAN and China in the areas of investment, trade, education, culture and tourism, focusing on promoting trade facilitation between ASEAN and China.

Mr. Zhu made a presentation on CIECC’s plans in development and training of e-commerce, and its construction of information network.

Secretary-General Ma and Mr. Zhu both agreed on possible future cooperation in e-commerce, training, education and trade information sharing, etc.

Founded in 1996, CIECC undertakes the mission of promoting the development and application of e-commerce for the Chinese market. It also operates the authoritative, stable and secured third-party service platform of Chinese international e-commerce.

Secretary-General Ma took a field trip to the facilities and equipment of CIECC before the meeting.
