On 24 August 2015, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with H.E. Dr. Arief Yahya, Minister of Tourism of Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping introduced ACC’s mandate, functions and organizational structure, emphasizing ACC’s active roles and efforts in promoting education, culture, tourism, trade and investment, as well as enhancing people-to-people connectivity. She stated that Indonesia was the biggest ASEAN Member State, with a population of 250 million. As China-Indonesia relationship has maintained a good momentum, the two sides had enormous potentials in the field of tourism. This year, during President Jokowi’s official visit to China, the leaders of China and Indonesia set the target of 2 million exchanges of visits annually. In this regard, ACC would like to conduct joint activities with the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia to promote and achieve this goal at an early date.

H.E. Dr. Arief Yahya highly appreciated Secretary-General Yang Xiuping for her visit.  He was pleased to see ACC’s efforts in promoting tourism cooperation between ASEAN and China, and was keen to participate in ACC’s activities. He also stressed that Indonesia was an important country along the Maritime Silk Road. China’s initiative of “One Belt One Road”, Indonesia’s initiative of tracing the voyage of Admiral Zheng He, waiving tourist visa requirements for Chinese citizens and opening new direct and stopover airlines had created new opportunities to promote tourism cooperation between Indonesia and China. He hoped that ACC could organize more activities on capacity building for ASEAN countries, promote ASEAN countries through festivals and help develop ASEAN tourism destination.
