ACC Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping Attended the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Trilateral People-to-People Exchange Forum and the Inaugural Ceremony of the Network of Trilateral Cooperation Think-Tanks

On 31 August 2015, the 2nd Trilateral People-to-People Exchange Forum and the Inaugural Ceremony of the Network of Trilateral Cooperation Think-Tanks were held in Changchun, Jilin Province. The Forum, one of the events of the 10th China-Northeast Asia Expo, was co-hosted by China Foreign Affairs University, Jilin Trilateral Cooperation Studies Centre and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS). Mr. Li Zhaoxing, President of China Public Diplomacy Association, Mr. Eda Satsuki, Former Speaker of Japanese House of Representatives, Mr. Gong Ro-myung, Former Foreign Minister of ROK, Mr. Gang Zhanbiao, Vice Chairman of Jilin Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Wu Jianmin, Vice President of China Institute for Innovation & Development Strategy, Mr. Qin Yaqing, President of China Foreign Affairs University, Mr. Iwatani Shigeo, Secretary-General of the TCS, Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Mr. Kim Young-sun, Secretary-General of ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC), Mr. Zhang Jiuhuan, President of CJK Economic Development Association, Mr. Wang Gengnian, President of China Radio International, Mr. Wang Gangyi, Deputy Director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Mr. Gong Jianzhong, Vice President of China Public Diplomacy Association and nearly 200 experts and scholars from China, Japan and Korea attended the Forum. The Network of Trilateral Cooperation Think-tanks was jointly launched at the Forum by Mr. Qin Yaqing, President of China Foreign Affairs University, Mr. Ishigaki Yasuji, President of Council on East Asian Community of Japan, and Mr. Yun Duk-min, Chancellor of Korea National Diplomatic Academy.    

Mr. Gang Zhanbiao, Mr. Qin Yaqing and Mr. Iwatani Shigeo delivered welcome remarks. Mr. Gang Zhanbiao extended a warm welcome to the participants on behalf of Jilin Province and briefly introduced Jilin. He expressed Jilin's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Japan and ROK, with an aim to reinvigorate Jilin's old industry and join the building of "One Belt One Road". He would also welcome the 3rd Trilateral People-to-People Exchange Forum to be held in Jilin. Mr. Qin Yaqing highlighted that trilateral cooperation had been institutionalized continuously with expanded areas and more consensuses. The Forum attached great importance to the roles of think-tanks, media and 10+3 mechanism, and would be considered as one of the important outcomes of the trilateral cooperation. Mr. Iwatani Shigeo indicated that trilateral cooperation would be conducive to peace and prosperity of the region and the world as a whole. Think-tanks of the three countries should explore common projects and share common responsibilities, and provide constructive ideas and proposals to their respective governments. He also noted that the coordination and cooperation among ACC, AKC and ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) should be further enhanced to jointly push forward 10+3 cooperation.

Mr. Li Zhaoxing, Mr. Eda Satsuki and Mr. Gong Ro-myung delivered keynote speeches on the openning ceremony. Mr. Li Zhaoxing recalled the history of communication and cooperation among the three countries since the ancient times, introduced current fruits of trilateral cooperation, and emphasized on the significance of people-to-people exchange, especially cooperation among think-tanks, to East Asia cooperation. Mr. Eda Satsuki believed that the opening of the 2nd Trilateral People-to-People Exchange Forum was at the right time and would help elevate the trilateral cooperation to a higher level. He proposed that mechanisms for East Asia cooperation should be established and improved on the basis of common characteristics, so as to achieve the goals of co-existence, joint creation and common prosperity. In the meantime, youth exchanges should be enhanced to increase mutual understanding and mutual trust among peoples of the three countries. Mr. Gong Ro-myung noted the history of the 20th Century should not be forgotten. The three countries, already sharing a common destiny, should learn from the past to overcome the differences and doubts, and join hands to strive for prosperity, peace and stability of East Asia.

Secretary-General Yang was invited to attend the meeting and also join the welcome dinner hosted by Mr. Bayinchaolu, Party Secretary of Jilin Province, in the evening of 30 August 2015.
