On “One Belt One Road”, Secretary-General Yang said that the strategic concept of “One Belt One Road” was rich in content and deep in connotation. “One Belt One Road” was rather a symphony than a solo and its construction called for an open and broad mind. More than sixty countries in Asia, Africa and Europe had so far expressed their intention to join the co-construction of “One Belt One Road”. This significant initiative of cooperation would benefit not only ASEAN and other Asian countries, but also the world at large.

On ASEAN-China relations, Secretary-General Yang said that the “Diamond Decade” of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership made a good start. It had become a common goal of both sides to build a Community of Common Destiny, to jointly build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and implement the “2+7” Cooperation Framework. 2016 would mark the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, and the Chinese side proposed to designate 2016 a year of “ASEAN-China Educational Exchange Year”. The ASEAN-China relations had been blessing with a wide range of bright prospects. Encountered with an increasing challenge of the global economic downturn, the development of Asian countries as a whole would get a better off. Both ASEAN and China should adhere to the “win-win” spirit of mutual benefit, strengthen mutual understandings, deepen cooperation on economy, trade, connectivity, capacity building, people-to-people exchange and development of the Mekong River, as well as strengthen the joint efforts, striving for a better future.

On CAEXPO, Secretary-General Yang said that the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region had made great efforts in helping CAEXPO take a firm root in Nanning, and be evolved into an international grand gathering. CAEXPO had made significant contributions to the construction of ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and the promotion of concrete cooperation by closely following the trend and development of ASEAN-China relations, while exploring new fields of cooperation. Themed on “Building the 21stCentury Maritime Silk Road”, the 12th CAEXPO had an array ofcolourful activities with many bright spots. On top of promoting cooperation on traditional areas such as economy, trade, culture, education and tourism, the 12th CAEXPO also hosted innovative activities such as forums on international capacity, information port, and disabled people. Secretary-General Yang believed that the CAEXPO would make even greater contributions to the joint building of Community of Common Destiny and “One Belt One Road”.

On ACC, Secretary-General Yang said that ACC, as the only inter-governmental organization jointly established by the governments of ASEAN Member States and China, represented 11 countries and 2 billion people. Since its inception, ACC had been playing an active role in realizing the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides. It spared no efforts topromote ASEAN-China cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, media and public relations, striving to become a promoter of goodneighborliness and mutual trust, facilitator of functional cooperation and spreader of friendship to contribute to the development of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership. ACC would step up its efforts to strengthenexchange and cooperation between both sides on a higher level closely around the major strategies of building the Community of Common Destiny, co-constructing “One Belt One Road”, upgrading ofthe CAFTA, injecting new impetus to the concrete ASEAN-China cooperation in all fields, and raise the ASEAN-China relations to a new height.

The interview was a part the annual CAEXPO. It provided a good opportunity for ACC to update on its activities and visions about ASEAN-China relations, outreaching ACC to the local public in Guangxi as well as the general public both in China and ASEAN. ACC also published a “Promotional Info Sheet” in the 12th CAEXPO Manual, introducing ACC as an information and activities centre to enhance ASEAN-China relations and inviting the general public to contact and interact more with ACC.
