Secretary-General Yang Xiuping Exchanged Views on ASEAN-China Tourism Cooperation with Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand

On 27 September 2016,  H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Siriyasat Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand and exchanged views on strengthening ASEAN-China and China- Thailand tourism cooperation during the World Tourism Day Celebrations held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Minister Wattanavrangkul extended her appreciation to Secretary-General Yang for attending the World Tourism Day Celebrations, and briefed the overall activity.  She hoped that  the activity would be an opportunity to further promote the tourism cooperation between Thailand and ASEAN, as well as countries around the world.  She appreciated ACC’s effort on promoting functional cooperation between China-Thailand as well as China-ASEAN, and expressed the willingness to continue to enhance tourism cooperation with ACC so as to develop the tourism industries jointly.

Secretary-General Yang gave her thanks to Minister Kobkarn for the invitation, and emphasized the importance of tourism development for economic and social development both in China and ASEAN states. The governments of China and ASEAN countries all placed great emphasis on the development of tourism industry, and had done a lot of work. Leaders of ASEAN and China had reached consensus to announce the year 2017 as the ASEAN-China Year of Tourism Cooperation. She hoped both sides could take this as an opportunity to make continuous efforts, increase investment in tourism infrastructure construction and tourism accessibility,  strengthen the training of tourism human resources, provide more quality services, strengthen publicity by making full use of the advantages of internet, equip and facilitate people with relevant information, and develop new tourism products jointly so as to to meet the needs of the growing diversity of people. 

Secretary-General Yang  reiterated  that tourism was one of five major focus of ACC. ACC would continue discussing the new tourism cooperation model with Thailand in order to enhance the tourism cooperation between China-Thailand and China-ASEAN and yield  the benefits for people of both countries.
