ASEAN Media Delegation Visited China Southern Power Grid Co.

On 25 October 2016,the ASEAN media delegation visited China Southern Power Grid Co. (CSG) in Kunming, accompanied by Ms. Chen Shi, Vice Editor-in-chief of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and concurrently President of the China Report Magazine  and Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk, Director of the Information and Public Relations Division of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).

The leaders of CSG gave a briefing on its operation and its cooperation with ASEAN countries in electric power. CSG covers a service area of four provinces and one autonomous region in Southern China. It has been playing an active role in promoting and participating in cooperation with neighbouring ASEAN countries in power plant and station construction, power trade, power source development, and personnel training. It has realized grid connectivity with GMS countries, and helped ease power shortage in Vietnam and Lao PDR. On October 13th, 2016, as witnessed by President Xi Jinping of China and Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, CSG signed a MoU on Investment and Development of the National Power Grid of Cambodia with the Cambodian Royal Group, making another highlight in ASEAN-China cooperation in energy and infrastructure.

    The ASEAN journalists expressed appreciation for CSG’s active engagement in pragmatic cooperation with ASEAN countries, focusing on its plan for developing power grid in relevant countries. The Lao journalists inquired whether CSG has plan to take part in the  China-Laos Railway construction. The Vietnamese journalist was concerned about the BOT (build-operate-transfer) project of Vinh Tan 1 Power Plant. The Cambodian journalist was interested in potential cooperation in developing new energy.
