The 6th Meeting of the JEB Held at the ACC Secretariat

On 4 November 2016, the 6th Meeting of the Joint Executive Board (JEB) was held at the Secretariat of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) in Beijing.

The Meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mme. Vandy Bouthasavong, Ambassador of Lao PDR to China and Mr. Huang Xilian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. H.E. Mrs. Khek M. Caimealy, Ambassador of Cambodia to China, H.E. Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo, Ambassador of Indonesia to China, representatives from the Embassies of ASEAN Member States in Beijing, members of the China Council of ACC, and ACC officials attended the Meeting.

The JEB members commended ACC’s great efforts and achievements in promoting practical cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, information and media under the leadership of Secretary-General Yang Xiuping. They cited that 2017 will be the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and the Year of ASEAN-China Tourism Cooperation. Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism is also expected to move forward next year. The JEB members hoped that ACC would continue to act on the important consensus of the leaders of both sides and make greater contributions to the future development of ASEAN-China relations.

Secretary-General Yang expressed her appreciation to the JEB members for their ever strong support to the Secretariat. She said the 19th ASEAN-China Summit held in Lao PDR has charted the course of the development of future ASEAN-China relations. ASEAN-China friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in relevant fields have been further enhanced in a creative way. The Secretariat will work closely with the JEB and heed relevant opinions so as to play a bigger role in moving forward ASEAN-China cooperation for the benefit of both sides. 

The Meeting deliberated on the ACC Draft Annual Report of 2016, ACC Draft Annual Plan of Operation and Work Programme of 2017 and the Draft Proposed Budget of Operational Expenditure of 2017.  It also discussed the Revision of the MoU on Establishing ACC between the Governments of the ASEAN Member States and China. The above-mentioned documents will be reported to the 6th Joint Council Meeting of ACC for further consideration along with relevant amendments and suggestions.
