The 2016 ASEAN-China Workshop on Cooperation for Cultural Production Capacity (ACWCCP) kicked off on 6 December in Dongyang City, and the attendees briefed on the development of film industry in their respective countries, and discussed cooperation in film industry. They expressed a strong desire to further strengthen cooperation, and made proposals on personnel exchanges, capacity building, and co-production of films. The ASEAN representatives said that the Workshops offered a rare opportunity to promote mutual understanding and open up new avenues of cooperation. They emphasized that the strengthening of cooperation in the film industry will not only help move forward film production, but also improve cultural production capacity of both sides. They hoped that ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) would, as always, pay attention and give support to practical cooperation in culture and the humanities, and continue to make new contributions to promote understanding and friendship between the peoples.

H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ACC, expressed appreciation for participants’ strong desires to pursue ASEAN-China cooperation in cultural industry, and stated that ACC will continue to play the role of a bridge to promote pragmatic cooperation. It will make joint efforts with the authorities concerned and non-governmental organizations of both sides to promote the prosperity of the film industry in ASEAN and China.

During the Workshop, attendees from ASEAN countries made site visits to Hengdian World Studios and had face-to-face communication with film production teams in the Studios. Through on-the-spot investigations, the attendees had a close observation of the development of film and television industry in Hengdian Township and a more direct perception of the latest trend of cultural industry in China as a whole. The ASEAN  representatives and officials in Dongyang City all look forward to further strengthening exchanges and cooperation, and promoting cooperation in cultural production to a new level through the platform of ACC.
