ASEAN-China Centre Attended the Lancang-Mekong Countries’ Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation Promotion Activities

On 3 December 2018, Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Trade and Investment Director of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) attended the opening ceremony of Lancang-Mekong Countries’ Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation Promotion Activities hosted by the International Cooperation Center (ICC) of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China in Beijing. About 150 participants from government authorities, business associations, enterprises, industrial parks and financial institutions of China and the five Mekong countries attended the activities.

Mr. Huang Yong, Director General of ICC, and Mr. Zheng Chiping, Deputy Director General of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment Department of NDRC addressed the opening ceremony. Mr. Huang Yong briefed on the achievements made in production capacity and investment cooperation under Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. He suggested that China and the five Mekong countries should jointly plan for future development, set up funds, industrial parks and share outcomes so as to build a flagship initiative of the Lancang-Mekong community of a shared future with greater harvest. Mr. Zheng Chiping suggested that the six countries should further align their needs, share information and explore effective ways of financial support for Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, so as to promote more practical results.

Mr. Guo Chuanwei highlighted in his speech that production capacity and connectivity are the priority areas of ASEAN-China cooperation as well as Lancang-Mekong cooperation. The six countries should give full play to the role of the LMC mechanism on production capacity, and synergize the Belt and Road Initiative with the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030 and the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025.The six countries should focus on the key areas of cooperation, such as infrastructure, energy, logistics and the Internet, vigorously promote trade and investment facilitation and regional economic integration, so as to advance sustainable economic and social development for all countries in the region.

Government officials of leading departments and embassy representatives from six member states of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Joint Working Group on Capacity Cooperation briefed on the progress of LMC projects, national policy support and priority areas of cooperation in their respective countries. China and the five Mekong countries expressed readiness to strengthen communication and cooperation, jointly formulate and implement action plans, and work together for a solid and sustained growth of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.

The Lancang-Mekong Countries Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation Promotion Series Activities will end on 7 December 2018 in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. The whole events consist of opening ceremony, keynote speeches, policy dialogues, industrial park promotion, business matching, project signing and research tours to local markets and enterprises, during which interactive exchanges on issues including new modes of cooperation in production capacity, connectivity and financial services will be carried out.
