ACC Successfully Held the 2021 Online Briefings on Enrollment Policies of Chinese Universities towards AMS (Session II)

On 27 June 2021, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) successfully held the Second Session of “2021 Online Briefings on Enrollment Policies of Chinese Universities towards ASEAN Member States (AMS)”. 

Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun, Ambassador of Indonesia to China, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. He stated that China and AMS are geographically close and culturally connected and are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. The two sides have been helping each other to overcome the major impact of the epidemic on the country, society and economy, and made important contributions to the regional economic recovery. He emphasized that with the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on 15 November 2020, it has put forward urgent demands for talents who are professional in certain fields and at the same time have better understandings towards each other’s language, culture, history etc. Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun wished that all the students of AMS may have the opportunity to study in China, broaden their horizons and knowledge, exchange ideas and build friendship with the younger generation of China, and serve as ambassadors to carry forward the friendship between ASEAN and China. 

Ms. Pasupha Chinvarasopak, Education and Science Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Thailand in China, Mr. Yaya Sutarya, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Indonesia, Mr. Phoxay Thepvilayvong, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Lao PDR, Mr. Hoang Mai Dien, First Secretary of the Embassy of Viet Nam, and Mr. Lico TY, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Cambodia, attended the virtual meeting. Ms. He Wei, Officer of the Department of Education, Culture and Tourism of ACC, chaired the briefings. 

Five Chinese universities, namely Xiamen University, Nankai University, Sichuan Normal University, Tianjin Normal University and Nanjing University successively delivered presentations concerning the general information of their university, characteristic disciplines, latest enrollment policies, employment and development, and experience sharing of studying and living abroad in China. An audience of more than 1,200 people, including teachers, students and parents of related schools and colleges of AMS watched the conference via Zoom platform, Facebook, YouTube and other channels.

The Series of “2021 Online Briefings on Enrollment Policies of Chinese Universities towards ASEAN Member States (AMS)” is an innovative programme which has successfully held two sessions, and aims to build a platform for further promotion of educational exchanges between China and AMS and help ASEAN students and their parents who wish to study in China to obtain more comprehensive, authentic and timely information about studying abroad in China.
