On 8 March 2024, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Consul General Wei Huaxiang of China in Ho Chi Minh City.

Secretary General Shi thanked the Chinese Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City for its always staunch support to the ACC’s work. He stressed that, since its establishment 12 years ago, the ACC has been committed to implementing the important consensus reached between the leaders of ASEAN and China as well as of Vietnam and China, and continuously strengthening practical cooperation between both sides. The ACC stands ready to further strengthen communication and cooperation with the Consulate-General, help dock the cooperation needs in the southern region of Vietnam towards tapping potentials for future cooperation, and build more platforms and provide more momentum for the enterprises exchanges and industrial cooperation between both sides, so as to advance mutually beneficial cooperation between ASEAN and China as well as between Vietnam and China.

Consul General Wei warmly welcomed Sectary General Shi leading a business delegation to visit Ho Chi Minh City. He said that China-Vietnam relations vividly illustrate the notion of “a close neighbor being much better than a relative in distance”. The southern region of Vietnam is rich in natural resources and development endowments, enjoying close economic ties and complementarities with the business stakeholders in China. In the context of post-pandemic recovery, the demand for cooperation between both countries continues to rise. The Consulate General is willing to actively support the ACC in bringing into the full play of its role as a linking bridge, further promoting economic cooperation, trade integration and  streamlining production and supply chains, and exploring more opportunities in emerging fields, so as to bring practical cooperation between China and ASEAN, with Vietnam included, to new heights.
