ACC Invites Indonesian Ambassador to China to Visit Dalian and Give Lecture at Local University

From 19 to 21 March 2023, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) invited H.E. Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mrs. Sih Elsiwi Handayani Oratmangun, spouse of the Ambassador, to visit Dalian and successfully held “Lecture Series on ASEAN-China Relations” at Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL). H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ACC accompanied them throughout the event.

On 21 March, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun gave a lecture on ASEAN-China relations at Dalian University of Foreign Languages. Mr. Wang Weichen, Secretary of the Party Committee of DUFL, Ms. Liu Hong, President of DUFL, and Cheng Yingjun, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Dalian Municipal Government attended the event. Over 70 faculty members and students of DUFL participated. 

President Liu Hong extended sincere greetings and warm welcome to Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun and Secretary General Shi Zhongjun. She pointed out that in recent years, DUFL has carried out active cooperation with Indonesian universities in such fields as inter-university exchanges, talent cultivation, and faculty training. DUFL will continue to give full play to its academic and professional advantages and social service functions, cultivate more high-caliber interdisciplinary international talents to meet the needs of social development, and contribute to the development of China-ASEAN relations.

Secretary General Shi Zhongjun said in his speech that ASEAN-China relations enjoy bright prospects, and cooperation between two sides needs the driving force from the young generation to move forward. He believed that Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun’s speech will help young students better understand the development of Indonesia-China and ASEAN-China relations and encourage them to actively devote themselves to friendly exchanges and cooperation. The ACC will continue promoting practical cooperation between ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China in such fields as education and culture, and make new contributions to the development of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun said in his speech that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, Indonesia-China relations have been further strengthened. Bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade and people-to-people exchanges made fruitful achievements, with educational collaboration continuing to grow. ASEAN-China relations are vital to maintaining a stable, peaceful and prosperous region. As the 2023 rotating chair of ASEAN, Indonesia regards China as one of ASEAN's most important dialogue partners and is willing to strengthen all-round cooperation, jointly promoting in-depth development of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership and realizing a peaceful community for a shared future.

Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun also answered questions from the students on the scene on such topics as the future of Indonesia-China bilateral relations and digital economy, and encouraged the young students to learn language skills, broaden their international horizons, and embrace the constantly-changing future. In a warm ambience, rounds of applause were given to the Ambassador's passionate and splendid lecture.

The delegation then visited university library and Chinese cultural experience room, where they enjoyed traditional Chinese cultural shows such as tea art and folk music.

Before the lecture, DUFL Party Secretary Wang Weichen and President Liu Hong met with Secretary General Shi Zhongjun, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun and his spouse to exchange views on promoting cooperation between DUFL and universities in Indonesia and other AMS.

Deputy Mayor of Dalian Mr. Chu Tianyun met with the delegation during their stay in the city, and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between Dalian and RCEP countries including Indonesia.

The delegation also had discussions with official in charge of Dalian Sub-council of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and visited Dalian Bingshan Group, RCEP (Dalian) International Business Zone, and Dalian Cross-border Fresh Food Park of Sunlon Group, exchanging views on further deepening economic and trade cooperation between Dalian and Indonesia. 

Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun also gave interviews to local media including Dalian Television, Dalian Daily, and Dalian Evening News.
