Secretary General Shi Zhongjun Meets with Ambassador of Singapore to China

On 6 June 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with H.E. Peter Tan, the newly-appointed Ambassador of Singapore to China. Ms. Zhou Suli, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Singapore Embassy, and Mr. Sun Yi, Director of the ACC General Affairs and Coordination Division, were also present.

Secretary General Shi congratulated Ambassador Tan on his assumption of office and expressed gratitude to the Singaporean Embassy for its continuous support to the ACC. Shi underlined that, as an inter-governmental organization co-founded by 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China, the ACC has been playing an active role as a linking bridge to deepen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between AMS and China, contributing greatly to the regional peace and prosperity as well as the building process of ASEAN community. Singapore is one of the founding members and strong advocates of ASEAN. The ACC stands ready to work closely together with the Embassy to raise public awareness of ASEAN in China, promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and jointly secure a smooth growth of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership in the post-pandemic era. 

Ambassador Tan appreciated the ACC’s endeavor in promoting ASEAN-China relations, and stressed that AMS always view China as one of the most important dialogue partners of ASEAN and are all encouraged to witness the achievements of ASEAN-China cooperation in more than 30 years. The Singaporean Embassy is willing to work with other AMS in support of the ACC’s future efforts in better raising public awareness of ASEAN in China, enhancing people-to-people exchanges between both sides, and making greater contribution to the sustained growth of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
