SG Shi Zhongjun Attends “Indonesia Night in Beijing”

On 26 September 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) attended the event “Indonesia Night in Beijing”, co-sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Beijing and Bank Indonesia in celebration of the strong friendship between Indonesia and China while showcasing the Indonesian cultural richness.

Under the theme of “Building up sustainable friendships through the uniqueness of Indonesia’s culture and nature”, the event began with remarks by the Indonesian Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun, the ACC Secretary General Shi Zhongjun and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo. In his remarks, Secretary General Shi highlighted the 10th Anniversary of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, underscoring the remarkable growth of the bilateral relations in the past decade. He attributed this success to the foundation of equality, mutual respect and win-win cooperation between the two countries. As two major developing countries, Indonesia and China share common goals for national development, prioritizing economic growth, regional peace and security, and the promotion of shared interests among developing nations.

Secretary General Shi also expressed his appreciation to Indonesia’s commendable efforts in assuming the role of ASEAN Chair and its continued support to the ACC in advancing ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The ACC has actively promoted people-to-people connectivity, facilitating exchanges and interactions among individuals, institutions and business communities from ASEAN and China. Through cultural exchanges, educational collaborations, and tourism initiatives, the ACC has strengthened the bonds between ASEAN and China, fostering mutual trust and cooperation. 

The event was attended by representatives from diplomatic corps in Beijing, business communities, banking industries, media agencies and cultural institutions. The event turned out to be a success in promoting cultural exchanges and served as a platform to showcase the deep-rooted friendship and everlasting bonds between Indonesia and China as well as the prospects of building ASEAN-China community with a shared future.
